Dr. Furlong is a native of Pittsburgh. She was raised in the South Hills and attended Duquesne University obtaining an undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in music. She matriculated to New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine and after graduating, returned home to complete her family medicine residency at UPMC St. Margaret's. She joined South Hills Family Medicine in 1998 and has distinguished herself in the Pittsburgh medical community.
Dr. Furlong was the president of Jefferson Regional Medical Center's Medical Staff in 2009-2010. She now chairs several committees at JRMC and is a devoted Hospital Board Member. She is the recipient of Pittsburgh Magazine's Top Doc Award in 2010 and 2011.
Her commitment to community is impeccable; volunteering medically to help Katrina victims and those afflicted by the devastating midwest tornadoes.
She was instrumental in the implementation of South Hills Family Medicine's electronic medical record six years ago, and serves JRMC as a liaison for their electronic medical record efforts.
In her spare time Dr. Furlong enjoys music, her family and reading. Her steadfast devotion to family and community give her the inner strength required to practice family medicine.
