Dr. Tu grew up in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. He studied at Penn State University where he graduated with High Distinction in Biology and wrote his Honors thesis in Kinesiology. He received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine with an Area of Concentration in Underserved Populations. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with a focus on primary care. He returned to Pittsburgh and actually crossed the river to join South Hills Family Medicine.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Medical Association.
Dr. Tu believes that the key to an effective patient-physician relationship is getting to know the patient as a person and the context in which he or she lives. Communication and openness are essential to provide personalized care that helps patients achieve good health.
Outside of work he enjoys playing the piano, listening to music and reading. He is an avid traveler and has been abroad in Honduras and Guatemala as well as the Navajo reservation in Arizona with the Indian Health Service. He is interested in local and world cuisine and enjoys learning about different cultures.
